Teeth whitening is a process that lightens discolouration of enamel and dentine caused by ageing or consumption of staining substances such as tea, coffee, colas, tobacco and red wine.
The initial consultation with the Dentist takes 30 minutes and involves taking dental impressions for your personal teeth whitening tray.
Your second consultation will involve the actual teeth whitening procedure. Cleaning of the teeth is recommended prior to this procedure. A teeth whitening gel is applied to the teeth and reacts with a specialist light, the light and the gel work together to gently penetrate your teeth breaking up the stains and discolouration. This will take around an hour.
By following some simple post whitening care instructions, your teeth will be lighter than they were previously. To keep your teeth looking their best, it is recommended you floss, brush teeth twice daily and occasional maintenance with top up gel.
The possible side effects of treatment include sensitivity during and after treatment. The light can generate minimal heat which is the usual source of discomfort and on occasion minor tingling sensations are experienced immediately after the treatment but always dissipate.
