ALL YOU NEED IS LIPO: BOOMERS DOMINATE BIRMINGHAM COSMETIC SURGERY
In an interview with BBC1 Midlands Regional News and Radio WM The Ed Doolan Show - 17 June 2008, leading Cosmetic Surgeon Reveals Local Age Trends
Midlands’ baby boomers in their race to stay young looking, are increasingly turning to cosmetic surgery as an anti-aging weapon, according to leading Birmingham cosmetic surgeon CC Kat, where more than one in three patients at her clinic are now in their 50s and 60s. Pamela Young, aged 62, from Birmingham, says she has foundconfidence and a new lease of life after having liposuction to her inner thighs, back, hips and stomach with Mrs Kat.
Says Pamela:
“I have always been fairly fit and my shape has remained the same – around a dress size 10-12, but I hit a stage where I suddenly gained weight and no amount of diet or exercise would shift it. I’ve always been a gym-goer and had never experienced this before, so I was quite alarmed. I don’t eat large amounts and eat the right things.
Clothes shopping became a nightmare and I’d come home feeling deflated - nothing seemed to fit or look right – it really affected my confidence. I decided the only route was cosmetic surgery. Once I’d made the decision to have liposuction I booked in immediately with Mrs Kat. The procedure was a lot more comfortable than I expected and I was pleasantly surprised by how I felt afterwards. When I looked at the instant new shape I had I was delighted.”
Pamela says her confidence has gone ‘through the roof’ and her surgery has inspired her to pursue a new career.
“Some people may think spending thousands on yourself for this type of treatment is a lot, but people spend that on a holiday or a car, and I feel very happy. I now have the body I had in my 20s, but twice the amount of confidence – the male attention is great! It was worth every penny and I’m now taking lessons to familiarise myself with computers so I can pursue a new career as a tour manager,” says Pamela.
Baby boomers is a term generally applied to adults in their 50s and 60s, and according to CC Kat, are the leading group opting to spend their disposable cash on making themselves look and feel good.
According to CC Kat, consultant plastic surgeon and member of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons:
“Baby boomers are fuelling the surge for cosmetic procedures. They are more focused on themselves, they work to stay fit and healthy and as a result want to look younger. Boomers have seen their offspring fly the nest and now see it as ‘their turn’ to invest in themselves and take time out to make sure they look and feel their best. Some are doing it because they generally want to look younger, and can finallyafford it. Others may be starting over again after a life-changing event, such as divorce or illness.”
